Custom Banners
I'm quite happy with the new feature. On the other hand, I can see that this could open the possibility of VOX becoming as visually sucktastic as MySpace. I really liked the themes that the 6A team has released throughout beta. I liked most of the themes that were picked for the contest. One of the things that I like/liked about VOX was that it had a very consistent look and feel.
I felt that some of the contest entries were pretty bad and those are the types of things that I fear will start popping up on various blogs.
I played around with the new feature a bit this evening. It is pretty easy to use.. which is good, but "easy to use" also makes it "easy to upload a banner that will make my eyes bleed".
I threw my banner together using assets I designed for a podcast web site that were never used (which is why the tikis are holding iPods). He is actually the little bruddah of this tiki I carved a few years ago for my buddy Steven's home tiki bar.
The banner still needs work. Maybe not. I'm my biggest critic and I'm rarely happy with a final result (the "final" is usually only the final due to a deadline- I find myself going back to old projects and tweaking them all of the time.) I'm not a big fan of 'orange'. It still needs something orange or not.
I hate sounding condescending, but I really hope that those who struggle with designing will stick to the provided themes/banners.

Vox: What have you done?
I just made your banner the answer to the question of the day.
Frankly it's absolutely a price I'm happy to pay. If there's one thing that would have lead to me leaving Vox, it's the inability to individualise my account. I'm an artist, why would I want to be using someone else's design? And no offense to Tiff and the more recent designers, but the designs they've done are not my cup of tea. Not a single one of them. So why shouldn't I have the ability to make my Vox unique in the most visible way - the banner?
