I'm not. But she is.
What is the biggest cultural difference between where you live now and where you grew up?
Where I grew up has been around for quite a long time. Lot of history happened there and in the immediate area.
Where I live now really had no major cultural significance prior to 1971.. and even "cultural significance" is debatable.
Like many people, I'm not too thrilled with latest VOX release. Other releases have made minor tweaks and adjustments. Some I liked. Some I didn't. I managed, though. After taking some time to digest the new log in page, I've decided that I don't care for it. Hate it.
've got a feeling that ad-space and revenue generated from ads has a lot to do with the changes in this release. To keep VOX free, those ads have to be shown and clicked. I may not like changes that are a result of that, but I certainly understand.
Here is how I would use the old page:
I'd first look at the recent comments to see if I had received any. Then I'd scan for an updated QOTD or I would go to the "Recent Posts from Neighborhood" area to see who made new posts. Most of the time, I'd end up clicking on the more posts link because my neighborhood tends to be an active bunch and often there would be new posts that weren't featured on the main page. I liked seeing the condensed/abbreviated post listing so I could click on the person/post that had something I wanted to read. I never cared for the feed that provided the full and complete - sorry neighbors, I don't care to read everything you have to say.
The "recent comments" feed started to bug me because it would show any follow-up comments to any post that I would comment on. I liked seeing the comments that were posted on my blog. I also liked to see some of the follow-ups on other's posts. But I didn't like seeing ALL of them. I was hoping that there would be a feature added that would let one opt-in or opt-out of those comments. I found that I started leaving less comments for others because I didn't want my recent comment feed polluted... and that is not good.
Placement of the QOTD seems to be a big issue for some. Yeah, it is annoying to have to scroll, but I can deal with that. I do like the idea of multiple QOTDs, but I'm not sure how well that is going to work out. It seemed like there was some struggle on getting quality QOTDs previously. It seems that that challenge would only be multiplied with having more.
What I found I missed the most was seeing the condensed neighborhood feed and having the longer listing available to me with one click.
The neighborhood feed still exists, but to get to it from the main page, the feed that provides the full and complete posts is one click away. To get to the condensed feed, you have to click 3 times. Ok, 3 times isn't that big of a deal, but it is annoying. Especially when what you had before didn't require a click or maybe one click.
So here is what I did to curb my annoyance:
The condensed feed is here:
http://www.vox.com/reader/neighborhood/posts/
I created a bookmark in Firefox for that URL.
I then opened up the bookmark properties and created a keyword for it (VOX).
Now all I have to do is type VOX in my address bar and http://www.vox.com/reader/neighborhood/posts/ will open.
I'm not posting this because I think it is a clever hack or anything like that. I just know that there are a lot of Firefox users who also use VOX. I'm guessing that many do not know about using keywords to quickly navigate to URLs and this is for them to use to go to the neighborhood feed or whatever else they deem fit.

The seventh season of "American Idol" premieres tonight. Will you be watching, or are you over it?
I have absolutely no idea what the appeal of this show is to anyone. I can understand the humor that comes with the auditions, but that gets old fast. Ok, that person sucks and that is the only reason they made it to that audition stage.
As for the main show - no idea.
When I was a Nielson family member, I did my best to get the other shows in the same time slot ratings for the sole purpose of getting American Idol off the air. I don't know if I had any impact since I do not know how many people I represented, but it was all I could do for the betterment of television in America.
