Spent the weekend at Screamfest. They bill it as Florida's largest horror convention. It may be the largest, but only by default. I'm not aware of any other horror cons in the state.
The event was disorganized chaos. Poor queue management. Poor communication between the staff and the guests. The location was way short on parking. I'd have a hard time recommending the event to anyone who wasn't local based on this year's experience.
Todd and I had a good time outside of the poor running of the event. We were able to get our Crystal Lake Memories book signed by Richard Brooker (Part 3), Kane Hodder (Parts 7, 8, 9, 10), Betsy Palmer (Jason's mother in Part 1), and Harry Manfedini (the composer- the guy who did the 'Ki...Ki...Ki...Ma...Ma...Ma'). Picked up 2 more signatures on my Devil's Rejects Poster and started a Halloween Poster (damn Rob Zombie for putting the same people in his movies and forcing me to get their signatures on everything).
David Arquette was there and screened his movie "The Tripper" and signed autographs. The Tripper is a mix of comedy and horror and was a lot better than I expected. That is to say, I didn't expect much and was surprised. The cast kicks ass - Jason Mewes, Paul Reubens, Balthazar Getty, Lukas Haas, Marsha Thomason. My head was pounding from not eating or drinking anything all day, so I left during the signing. Todd got an autograph for me, though.
Here are a few pics
Betsy Palmer was extremely nice and had Todd and I in stitches. While most people would only sign a small area of our Crystal Lake book, she decided to sign the entire inside cover. I guess when you are #1, you can do that.
Danielle Harris was tiny. She was also extremely polite to the guys in front of her that were just drooling all over themselves. They were making me uncomfortable. Can't imagine how she dealt with that for 3 days.
William Forsythe really surprised me. I guess because he plays rough and seedy people so well that I expected that from him. He was great. We talked about his character in Rob Zombie's Halloween. Mainly that there wasn't a single thing that he said in the first 10 minutes of the movie that he could quote on my poster and not be offensive. I think his daughter was with him. That tickled her. Oh yeah, I don't know about the bare feet either, but he was cool.
So was anyone there who was not cool? A few. But that comes with the territory. I just don't understand why those guys even go to things like this if they aren't going to be nice to the fans. I know some fans are a little bit overboard on everything, but most of us just enjoy the work. In some cases, have admired their work for a long time. No reason to be a dick about anything.
I showed this to the wife.
She responded, "Absolutely not."
There really wasn't much room for discussion.

IMHO, this makes a better Swamp Thing than Oscar. Since it is supposed to be Oscar, this falls into Point B of being kinda creepy.
HOW TO - Make an Oscar the grouch costume on MAKE
It is no secret that I'm a big Muppet fan and that I really love Halloween. However, like a lot of things I like, these two things do not mix very well.
Starting in 2002, my buddy Danny Horn started posting annual Muppet Fan Halloween Parades on his site, ToughPigs.com. That first year, he put out a call for submissions in exchange for candy and was completely overloaded. I even contributed a few pics I found via Google, but I told him to save his candy and give it to kids. I'm good like that. He continued through last year, and gave up on giving out candy.
It seems like Danny has been busy with creating and maintaining the Muppet Wiki this year and ToughPigs was placed on a bit of hiatus. Sadly, this probably means no Parade this year. The previous year parades are still available and still funny as hell.
Here is a synopsis of all of the parades:
A) Dressing up as a Muppet when you are kid works pretty well in most cases.
B) It doesn't work quite as well when you are older. In fact, it can be kinda creepy and scary.
C) It can work when you are older and don't try to do too much and just do enough to suggest the Muppet.
D) It can also work if you have some talent in building a costume or are willing to put the time into it to make it look good.
E) But it really doesn't work if you do this. Ever.

Danny, thanks for the laughter. Your work on TP has always been appreciated.
BTW- I've never dressed as a Muppet for Halloween and never will.
Matt & Trey just stuck their thumbs up Crocodile Hunter fans' asses and pissed them right off.
In another turn of "shocking" events, Steve Irwin fan's are upset over the most recent South Park's depiction of their hero in hell with a stingray sticking out of his chest.
Please.
It's South Park. It should expected.
Like these same people won't see a Steve Irwin Zombie at Halloween parties this year. Whenever a celebrity dies close to the season, they show up at Halloween parties.
That was the whole point of this bit. Satan was having a Halloween party and is told that someone showed up in a Steve Irwin costume and was offending the other guests. Satan realizes that it really is Irwin and then tosses him out of the party for not showing up in a costume.
(PRNewswire) On Monday, October 16, fifty balloon artists from around the world will take over one wing of a shopping mall in Rochester, New York and create a ten-room, 10,000-square-foot, walk- through haunted house made entirely out of balloons – more than 100,000 of them – in just five days. The quick turnaround is due as much to the artists' availability – all of whom donate their time and efforts – as it is to the temporary nature of the medium. Every wall, every object, and every sc-airy creature in Return to Balloon Manor – including a five-room Dead and Breakfast and a Scary-Go-Round – will be constructed from balloons.
