Have you ever experienced road rage?
Submitted by Question of the Day.
Every day.
Where you live where I do, you encounter people crossing 3 lanes of traffic in one pass, driving in the emergency lanes, stopping in the middle of the highway to read a sign and check a map (or take a picture under an arch that spans the road), reversing on an off ramp/on ramp because they realized they were on the wrong one, driving with their hazzard lights blinking when it rains, going 50 mph in the fast lane (on a 65 mph limit), and slowing down to an almost stop (or stoppng) when trying to merge with highway traffic.
Every freakin' day.
What do you think is too serious to joke around about?
I don't think there is a single subject that fits that. George Carlin did a bit where be addressed this topic.
I believe you can joke about anything. It all depends on how you construct the joke. What the exaggeration is. Because every joke needs one exaggeration. Every joke needs one thing to be way out of proportion.
If I was to add anything to this, it would have to be timing. There has to be a little time between when an event happens and when people are OK to joke about it. Of course, this varies with individuals, but there always has to be a little time.
Here's an example- at the Hugh Hefner Friar's Club Roast in late 2001, Gilbert Gottfried started his bit off with a joke about 9/11. As he started, the crowd started to grumble and someone out in the audience yelled "too soon". So here you have a room full of the funniest people in the world and they aren't too keen on a 9/11 joke that close to when the event happened.
Fortunately, Gilbert changed directions and went into a telling of The Aristocrats that was not only cathartic to the crowd, but also is now regarded as one of the best renditions of that joke ever.
How many hours a week do you spend playing video games?
Not as many as I'd like.
If you could change one thing about your physical appearance, what would it be?
Wish I was taller ;-)
Who was your favorite band when you were in 8th grade?
There were 2 - Alice Cooper and the Beastie Boys
Appetite for Destruction was released during that time and I remember that was a big deal since GnR was "different" from what had been popular for the past 3-4 years. Personally I was also listening to a lot of Beatles, Led Zeppelin, and Aerosmith. My friends were listening to RUN-DMC and the hair bands (Poison and the like).
Yoko Ono is suing Lennon Murphy, lead singer of the band Lennon, for "tarnishing" John Lennon's name amongst other things. What are your thoughts on Yoko's latest lawsuit?
The world should counter-sue Yoko for the exact same thing.
What is the biggest cultural difference between where you live now and where you grew up?
Where I grew up has been around for quite a long time. Lot of history happened there and in the immediate area.
Where I live now really had no major cultural significance prior to 1971.. and even "cultural significance" is debatable.
The seventh season of "American Idol" premieres tonight. Will you be watching, or are you over it?
I have absolutely no idea what the appeal of this show is to anyone. I can understand the humor that comes with the auditions, but that gets old fast. Ok, that person sucks and that is the only reason they made it to that audition stage.
As for the main show - no idea.
When I was a Nielson family member, I did my best to get the other shows in the same time slot ratings for the sole purpose of getting American Idol off the air. I don't know if I had any impact since I do not know how many people I represented, but it was all I could do for the betterment of television in America.
What is your daily commute like? What is the weirdest thing you've seen on that commute?
Submitted by E.
Going to work isn't too bad. Not a whole lot of traffic, but there are cops hiding out in their normal hiding out spots. Coming home is a little more hectic since I have to go pick up the boy. No cops, but lots of tourists.
Weirdest thing? I don't know if it is as much weird as it is just plain stupid, but it isn't uncommon to see a car pulled over to the side of the road where it is clearly marked not to pull over - have a family get out and run into the middle of the road for a picture under an arched sign. I should also mention that said road is 4 lanes on each side (4 going in, 4 going out- total of 8) and the cars on that road are traveling 55-65mph. and there are lots of cars. Would they want a family picture on a highway in their hometown? Probably not. Here? Definitely.
